Lugol's solution with Glycerin


The composition of 100 grams of solution includes 94 g glycerin3 g of water, 2 g potassium iodide and 1 g iodine.

Release form

A solution of Lugol with Glycerin is available in dark glass bottles of 25 g each. A pack of cardboard contains a bottle and instructions from the manufacturer. Lugol ointment with glycerin is not available.

Pharmachologic effect

Iodine has a pronounced antimicrobial effect. The active substance has a cauterizing effect in high concentrations. Small doses of elemental iodine have a locally irritating effect. The principle of exposure is based on the ability of the active substance to precipitate tissue proteins. With regard to metabolism, iodine is observed to intensify the processes of dissimilation. In patients with atherosclerosis a decrease in beta-lipoprotein levels is recorded and cholesterol in blood. The active substance is able to increase serum lipoproteinase and fibrinolytic activity, slow down processes blood coagulation.

Iodine accumulation in syphilitic gummas contributes to their softening, gradual resorption. At the same time, the accumulation of the active component in tuberculous foci enhances the inflammatory process. Lugol solution is not prescribed for individual hypersensitivity on iodine. Contraindications for oral administration:

  • furunculosis;
  • thyroid adenoma;
  • nephrosis, neuritis;
  • pulmonary tuberculosis;
  • gestation pregnancy;
  • hemorrhagic diathesis;
  • hives;
  • chronic course of pyoderma.

Age limit - up to 5 years.

Side effects

A solution with Glycerin for external use causes:

  • salivation;
  • urticaria.

When ingested, the Lugol solution causes:

When registering other negative reactions, it is recommended to cancel Lugol's solution.

Lugol's solution can be used externally to treat damaged skin. Dosage of the medication for internal use is carried out individually. Instructions for the solution of Lugol with Glycerin withsore throat: Rinse regularly for 5 days with supratonsillar spaces and lacunae. How to smear the throat: treat with gauze swabs or cotton swabs. The solution for angina can not be used twice. In surgical practice, the drug is used for burns.
