Steroid hormones

Steroid hormones- These are substances that have high biological activity. These substances are often of animal origin, less often of plant origin. Steroid precursors are isoprenoid substances. The presence of a special structure system significantly differs this class of substances from others. It is based on the gonan system, which is a saturated hydrocarbon. The steroid nucleus may be partially unsaturated or saturated, include alkyl and functional groups in its composition. Due to its special qualities, steroid hormones can easily penetrate into blood through plasma membranes to target cells. For getting into such cells hormones contact with transport proteinsthat deliver them to the right place.

The synthesis of steroid hormones occurs in the adrenal cortex from cholesterol, at yellow body and follicles of the ovaries, in the placenta. To steroid hormones sex hormones: female (estrogenic), among which ethinyl estradiol, estriol, estradiol, estrone; male (androgenic) hormones, among which methyltestosterone, testosterone, androsterone; as well as corticosteroids, which include aldosterone, driven, corticosterone, cortisone etc.

Steroid hormones play an important role in normalizing metabolism in the human body. Some synthetic hormones are even able to surpass natural analogues, prednisolone, for example, can be attributed to them.

Using anabolic steroids widely distributed among athletes, especially among those who are interested in a certain physical form, among bodybuilders, for example. Their action is based on the fact that steroids accelerate the production of testosterone. Given the fact that taking such drugs is equivalent to taking dope, and they have a considerable amount side effects, the thoughtless use of such funds can cause irreparable harm to human health. However, today you can buy steroid preparations containing artificial hormones in almost any store for nutrition of athletes, the possible negative consequences do not stop not only professional athletes, but also amateurs.
